What caused you to get into pet sitting/dog walking?
I decided to get into pet sitting and dog walking when I was in veterinary technician school in 2003. I thought it would be good experience for me to work with all different types of cats and dogs and make a little extra money.
What is the most fulfilling part of owning a pet sitting/dog walking business?
I love hearing from clients that they didn't worry at all while they were away because they knew their babies were in good hands. I never expected to grow to the point of needing employees regularly. It is very exciting to see how much business has grown.
What is the most challenging?
Hiring employees has been a big learning experience for me. Learning HR and employment laws is a lot and I know I don't know it all and need to be learning more. Also, being a team leader and knowing I have people relying on my business to earn money is a big responsibility.
Where do you see your business in 5 years?
I plan to have more clients, hire more sitters and have a team to run the business behind the scenes with scheduling and customer service.
What has TTP changed the most about how you run your business?
Our client/sitter communication has improved a lot!! Contact with our clients has become more consistent and now my sitters aren't using their personal cell phone numbers to communicate with clients. Clients know they need to go through their portal to request services and make changes and we are working on them updating any changes in their information for visits in their portal as well.
